Visit AMSE and explore the amazing world of science & technology, and the unique history of Oak Ridge, the "Secret City" of World War II's Manhattan Project, through exciting live demonstrations, hands-on activities, films and exhibits.
AMSE opened in 1949 in an old wartime cafeteria as the American Museum of Atomic Energy. Its guided tours took visitors through the peaceful uses of atomic energy. Today, AMSE's exhibits include The World of the Atom, Earth's Energy Resources, Y-12 National Security Complex, Exploration Station, and The Oak Ridge Story: WWII's Secret City. AMSE also has daily live demonstrations of the Van de Graaff generator; the museum's hair raising experience.
